SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury gets hits from ten bats in their day two split with McKendree in Springfield on Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats took game two of the series 5-3 and Drury game three, 10-3. McKendree is now 16-27 and Drury is 26-21.
GAME TWO
After 12 runs were scored in game one of the series yesterday, neither team could get any offense started until the fifth inning. Not a single runner reached third until that fifth.
In the fifth, McKendree crossed the plate five times. Three singles for the Bearcats resulted in all the runs.
The Panthers could not answer the Bearcats until the bottom of the sixth. A leadoff double from
Kaden Byrne, a single from
Landon Willbrand, and a walk from
Wyatt Morgan loaded the bases.
Luke Matschiner would hit a high fly ball to right field and McKendree's right fielder would drop it, allowing Byrne to score and everyone to advance 90 feet. A wild pitch would then score Willbrand. Two batters later,
Hesston Gray grounded into a double play, but Morgan was able to score.
The scoring would end there for both teams, giving McKendree a 5-3 win.
Drury only had four hits in the game. One from
Jackson Crider,
Connor Bain,
Kaden Byrne, and
Landon Willbrand.
Nick Gales started on the mound for Drury. He went 4.1 innings allowing nine hits and five runs. Gales did strike out three. The loss dropped him to 3-3.
Zach McKinnis pitched the final 2.2 innings and struck three out.
GAME THREE
The Bearcats had another inning to open up game three of the series. McKendree hit a three-run homer to crack the score sheet.
In the fourth inning, Drury tightened the game.
Hesston Gray had a lead-off single to left field. The next hitter,
Connor Bain would hit a no-doubt home run over the left-field wall to make it 3-2.
The homer kick-started the Drury offense. The Panthers exploded for six runs in the fifth inning.
Jackson Crider, Logan Ridelberger,
Carter Wambach, and
Wyatt Morgan all had RBIs in the inning, with Ridelberger and Wambach having two.
Connor Bain would put an exclamation point on the game with his second two-run homer of the game in the sixth and close scoring at 10-3.
Hesston Gray was 3-4 in the game with three runs scored.
Connor Bain went 2-3 with four RBIs. The two home runs from Bain were his fifth and sixth of the season. Logan Ridelberger and
Carter Wambach both knocked in two runs in the win.
Gage Hayes threw his fourth complete game of the season. He struck out five and allowed three runs. Hayes improves to 6-1 on the season.
