SAGINAW, Mich. – The Drury Softball season ended on May 10 with a 7-2 loss to Saginaw Valley State in the Saginaw Regional Final. The Panthers ended their season with a 35-23 record. The Cardinals improved to 46-12 and advanced to the NCAA-II Super Regionals, where they will host the winner of the Tiffin Regional final between Indianapolis and Hillsdale.
Drury had action on the base paths in the first inning. With two outs,
Taylor Hartsell singled to left field and advanced to second after
AJ Agers was hit by the pitch. Both Hartsell and Agers were left stranded.
The Panthers had more action on the bases in the fourth inning, when
Brooklyn LaChappa drew a two-out walk.
Victoria Garland advanced LaChappa to second on a single, but the Panthers left two stranded for the second time.
AJ Agers got the start in the circle for the Panthers. She did not allow a hit until the bottom of the fourth inning. That was a two-run homer that opened the scoring for SVSU.
The homer was the only hit that the Cardinals had until the sixth inning, when they took control of the game. SVSU loaded the bases and punched their third run of the game across on a single. With the bases still loaded, the Cardinals hit a grand slam over the left field wall to extend their lead to seven runs.
The seven-run deficit did not stop the Panthers.
Brooklyn LaChappa started the top of the seventh with a single into right field. Drury got their first and only runs of the game on a
Victoria Garland home run that scored LaChappa. After the home run, the Panthers went down three straight to end the game, 7-2.
In her final collegiate game,
Victoria Garland led the Panthers, going 3-3 with two RBIs.
Taylor Hartsell and
Brooklyn LaChappa each had one hit in their final Drury game.
AJ Agers threw 5.1 innings, allowing four hits and seven runs. She walked four and struck one out.
Jordyn Foley recorded the final two outs of the game.
Drury finished the season with 35 wins, the third most they have had in a season in their 18-year history, only behind the 2022 and 2019 teams, which each had 36 wins. Drury's two wins in the NCAA-II Tournament improved their record in national tournament games to 3-4. The loss in the regional final was the Panthers' first appearance in such a game.
Throughout the season, the Panthers reached and broke multiple milestones and records. On April 12, Drury's 2-1 win over Rockhurst was the program's 400th win.
Sophia Luetticke had a record-breaking season. In the 2025 season, Luetticke broke the record for the longest hit streak at Drury with 22. She also broke the career and single-season stolen base record, with 49 in the season and 76 in her three years as a Panther. Luetticke ended the season with 71 hits, which ties her for second in a single season at Drury. Her 55 runs scored this season are a Drury single-season record. In the second game against Maryville,
Landry Cochran tied the Drury single-game record for runs and hits with four each.
Taylor Hartsell hit four triples this season to become the all-time triples leader at Drury with 12.
Reece Anderson finished her freshman campaign with 160 assists from the shortstop position, a single-season record at Drury by more than 15.
