Drury's rally falls short in their fourth game of GLVC Tournament

MARION, Ill.— Drury featured late-inning comebacks throughout this year's Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament, but the Panthers fell short in the semifinals on Saturday in a 5-2 loss to Illinois Springfield at Mt. Dew Park in Marion, Illinois.

The Panthers, the number four seed in the GLVC, ended their season 33-23 while the Prairie Stars, seeded second, advanced to Sunday's championship 36-15.

Drury got through two elimination games to reach the semifinals and battled Illinois Springfield to a scoreless tie until the fourth, when the Prairie Stars scored a run on a bases-loaded hit batter and a bases-loaded walk. UIS went up 3-0 an inning later with an RBI-single from Mack Clark.

As they did in their previous three tournament games, Drury mounted a comeback in the late innings, and Hesston Gray brought the Panthers within a run of the lead, driving in two runs with a single to centerfield.

Illinois Springfield added two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth and held off the Panthers in the ninth.

Jackson Crider ended his freshman season going 3 for 4 at the plate.

The Prairie Stars drew eight walks, one intentional walk, and had four batters hit by pitch.

Illinois Springfield will play seventh-seeded Missouri S&T on Sunday at 12:30 pm the GLVC Championship.
