SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Drury men's basketball legend Ted Young will add another accolade to his lengthy list of honors, as the two-time All-American will be inducted into the Springfield Area Sports Hall of Fame during the organization's 2025 induction banquet on Oct. 7 at the Oasis Convention Center in Springfield.

Young, who starred for the Panthers on the hardwood from 1983-87, ranks ninth on Drury's all-time scoring list with 1,780 points and is second in both career assists (774) and steals (251). He earned NAIA All-America honors in 1986 and 1987 and was a three-time All-District 16 pick, as Drury logged a combined record of 99-35 during his four seasons, winning at least 24 games each year. Young also helped the Panthers to two NAIA National Tournament appearances, including a trip to the quarterfinals in 1985. It was Young's buzzer-beating shot against Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the national tournament's second round that propelled the Panthers into the quarterfinal round that year.

A Marionville (Mo.) High School product, Young won state titles as both a player and head coach at the Lawrence County school. He scored over 2,000 points as a prep standout, helping MHS to the 1982 Missouri Class 2A state championship. Following his Drury career, he embarked on a successful coaching career, ultimately leading his hometown Comets to a 458-214 record and 10 district titles during his two decades at the school. He guided the Marionville boy's program to the Class 2 state title in 2005, in addition to four other state semifinal appearances. He also coached the Marionville girls team to an 85-32 record.

Young was an immediate inductee into the Drury Athletics Hall of Fame following the completion of his playing career in 1987. He was also inducted into the MBCA Hall of Fame in 2016, as well as the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2020.

Tickets to the Springfield Area Sports Hall of Fame banquet are available for $60 through Sept. 30, via the organization's website, springfieldhof.org.
