Hunter Tennison (R-Jr., 285 pounds, Ozark, Mo.)
WILDWOOD, Mo. – Hunter Tennison led Drury wrestling at Tom Smith Open with a heavyweight title win at the Tom Smith Open on Jan. 11.
Tennison opened the day with a fall at 6:40 in round two after receiving a first-round bye. In the quarterfinals, he posted a 4-0 decision win over Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) opponent John Gholson of Maryville. The Ozark, Mo. native advanced to the championship bout with a fall at 1:47 in the semifinals. Tennison claimed the title by forfeit after his opponent suffered an injury 19 seconds into the final.
Three Panthers also added third place finishes in their respective brackets. Jeremiah Halter earned third at 174 pounds with an 18-3 technical fall at 5:58. Freshman Garrett Salt took home a third place finish with a fall at 3:29 in the 149-pound bracket. Brady Griffin also secured a third place finish, recording a 17-0 technical fall win at 6:51.
