EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Both Drury swimming and diving squads turned in strong performances on the first full day of competition at the
Great Lakes Valley Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, with the DU women maintaining their lead in the team scoring while the Panthers moved into the top spot of the men's standings Wednesday evening at Deaconess Aquatic Center.
Highlighting the day for Drury was
Lucas Mineur's GLVC Championship record in the men's 50 free, as the senior posted a time of 19.58 to claim gold. Fellow Panthers
Ivan Adamchuk earned a second-place finish in the 200 IM (1:46.14), while the DU 200 medley relay team of Adamchuk,
Joao Nogueira,
Yuri Cabral and Mineur earned a silver with a finish of 1:25.99 to help the Panthers (387) build a slim seven-point cushion over second-place Indianapolis (380).
Rounding out the men's standings after one complete day is McKendree in third (344.5), followed by Missouri S&T (185), Quincy (179), Lewis (160.5), UMSL (150), William Jewell (107), Rockhurst (95), Truman (72), and Southwest Baptist (66).
Led by second-place finishes from
Rianne Rose (1000 free),
Gwen Bergum (200 IM) and
Ashlyn Moore (50 free), the Panthers solidified their hold on the top spot in the women's team standings after strong morning performances saw them place four swimmers in A-finals for both the 200 IM and 50 free competitions.
DU's 200 medley relay team of
Sophia Deane, Bergum,
Maria Fe Munoz and
Petra Baumane eared silver as well, clocking in with a time of 1:41.90. DU also capitalized on placing four divers in the top six finishers in the 3-meter competition, led by
Piera Rufino's (407.50) second-place effort and
Anamarie Lewis's (391.20) bronze medal showing.
The Panthers (560.5) widened their lead to 46 points over second-place Indianapolis (514.5), while UMSL (252) sits in third. Lewis (219) and Rockhurst (182) follow in fourth and fifth, respectively, while William Jewell (172), McKendree (171), Quincy (131) and Truman (129) and Southwest Baptist (87) round out the standings.
Thursday at the GLVC Championships
Day three of the GLVC Championships begins Thursday morning with preliminaries in the 100 butterfly, 400 IM and 200 free, beginning at 10 a.m. (CT). The men's 3-meter Diving prelims are set to begin at 12:30 p.m., with finals kicking off at 5:30 p.m.
