Drury Men Finish Second, Women Fifth in 800 Free Relay at NCAA Championships

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The 2026 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships kicked off Tuesday evening at Deaconess Aquatic Center. The Drury men earned a national runner-up finish and the DU women finished fifth in the night's lone event, with each group picking up All-America honors in the 800 freestyle relay competition.
 
The Drury men's 800 free relay team of
Lucas MineurMatteo VissottoAlvaro Zornoza and Joao Nogueira eclipsed the previous NCAA-II record of 6:17.93 (Tampa, 2025) with its 6:16.80 effort, only to have to settle for silver for a second-straight year. Tampa's Barnabas Fluck, Joshua Noll, Jacob Hamlin and Nicholas Cavic shattered the Spartans' own mark with a 6:16.64 finish to take the first national title of the meet. 

The Drury women's squad, comprised of
Belen Morales, Nikol Maniko, Gwen Bergum and Ashlyn Mooreclocked a time of 7:16.18. Nova Southeastern won the title for a third-straight year in 7:08.52, narrowly missing its own NCAA-II record (7:08.50) from 2024. Colorado Mesa (7:13.88) finished as the runner-up, while Grand Valley State (7:14.24) and Tampa (7:15.49) finished immediately in front of Drury. 
 
Nova Southeastern leads the women's championships with 40 points, while the Panthers earned 28 points with their fifth-place showing.
 
Tampa leads the men's competition with 40 points, while Drury sits in second with 34, Colorado Mesa is third with 32, Indianapolis is fourth with 30 and McKendree completes the day in fifth with 28 points.
 
Day two of the national championships gets underway Wednesday with preliminary heats at 10 a.m. (CT).
