Drury Earns Split at No. 14 Central Oklahoma

EDMOND, Okla. – Drury traveled to No. 14 Central Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader. The Panthers split with the Bronchos to pick up their second-ranked win of the season.

GAME ONE – Drury 5, Central Oklahoma 2
Jordyn Foley got the start in the circle for the Panthers. She was the first pitcher to get put in a jam. The Bronchos loaded the bases with no one out in the bottom of the first. Gabrielle Bax threw Rylee Lemos out at the plate for the fielder's choice first out.

Still with the bases loaded, Jenna Jobe would ground into a double play, Reece Anderson to Kaley Adzick to end the inning and get the Panthers out of the early jam.

There would not be another scoring opportunity until the top of the third. Adzick and Anderson would both single to lead the inning off. Emma Niemczyk would see the first pitch of the at-bat and double to left center to push across the game's first run in Kaley Adzick.

Following an Isabel Ervin walk to load the bases, Haley Bryant would also walk to score Anderson. Drury's next two batters would strike out for the first outs of the inning. Still with the bases loaded, Gabrielle Bax would draw the innings third walk to score Niemczyk for the Panthers third run of the inning. Drury would score once more on a wild pitch to take an early 4-0 lead.

Central Oklahoma went down in order, trying to respond to the four-spot from the Panthers.

Drury scored their fifth run of the game in the fourth after another pair of walks and a wild pitch from the Bronchos pitching staff.

The offenses would go quiet until the bottom of the seventh. Trailing 5-0, UCO was fighting to tie the game and send it to extras. The Panthers would walk the lead-off batter before a double scored UCO's first run of the game. The Bronchos scored once more on a single two batters later, but Foley and the Drury defense held the Bronchos in check, picking up the 5-2 win.

GAME ONE NOTES
  • Jordyn Foley pitched the complete game, her second of the season. Foley allowed nine hits, two earned runs, and walked two. She improves to 2-3 on the season.
  • UCO's Shelby Beard was given the loss after she only got through two innings, allowing four runs and three walks.
  • Reece Anderson led Drury with two hits in three at-bats. She also scored two runs.
  • Emma Niemczyk and Kaley Adzick each had one hit.
  • Haley Bryant walked twice in the win.
  • Haley Gallo for the Bronchos had three of the nine UCO hits.
  • The Panthers turned two double plays in the game.
  • The win was Drury's second-ranked win of the season.

GAME TWO – Central Oklahoma 3, Drury 2
Following Drury's game one five runs, the Panthers wanted to get out early on the Bronchos, and they did just that.

In the top of the first, Emma Niemczyk singled to start the game and advanced to third on an Isabel Ervin bunt single. Haley Bryant would ground out to the pitcher the next at-bat, but it was enough for Niemczyk to score the first run. The Panthers would not be able to score again in the inning.

Unlike game one, UCO was able to answer the Panthers' early scores. The Bronchos scored two on a pair of lead-off singles, followed by a wild pitch to put two runners in scoring position. Right after the wild pitch, Kennedy Clark would single to clear the bases and put UCO in the driver's seat, 2-1. The threat of the Bronchos in the inning would end on the Panthers' third double play of the game.

Both teams' offenses would be unable to get anything to work until the top of the fifth when the Panthers knotted it up at two on a Kaley Adzick double to score Mykala Dodds, who was running for Gabrielle Bax.

Tied at two, the Bronchos were able to get one runner in scoring position in the bottom of the fifth but were unable to capitalize.

A lead-off walk and double for UCO in the bottom of the sixth put the Bronchos in a prime position to take the lead late. Kaley Adzick was able to get the next batter to strike out, but Brooklyn Lyles took the lead the next at-bat on a sac fly to score McKenzie Niehus.

The Panthers showed fight in the seventh with a lead-off double from Landry Cochran, but that was the only production Drury had in the inning, going down in order to end the game, 3-2.

GAME TWO NOTES
  • Kaley Adzick pitched a complete game but was unable to get the win. She drops to 2-3 after giving up five hits, three runs, and four walks.
  • Madison Hamilton was the winning pitcher. Hamilton allowed four hits and two runs in the complete game effort.
  • The Panthers had four players with one hit: Emma Niemczyk, Isabel Ervin, Landry Cochran, and Kaley Adzick.
  • Haley Bryant and Adzick each recorded an RBI.
  • UCO had five hits from five different batters in the game.
