Late Surge Lifts No. 15 UCM Past Panthers

WARRENSBURG, Mo. — Markell Dixon held No. 15 Central Missouri hitless for the first 6 2/3 innings, but the Mules rallied for four runs in the seventh and four more in the eighth to claim an 8-2 victory over Drury baseball in the two clubs' non-conference matchup Tuesday afternoon at Crane Stadium.

Dixon struck out five batters and held the Mules without a run or hit until Cole Funkhouser's two-out double in the seventh ended the senior right-hander's no-hit bid and sliced the Panthers' two-run lead in half. Cole Kreisel followed with a two-run double off reliever Hayden Linton, giving the Mules a 3-2 lead.

Ryker Edwards capped a string of three consecutive run-scoring hits with an RBI-single through the right side for a two-run UCM advantage.

Central Missouri (26-8) carried that momentum into the eighth when the first seven Mules to come to bat reached safely. Back-to-back hits opened the rally, before four-straight walks forced home a pair of UCM runs, and Kreisel came through once again with a two-run single to stretch the margin to 8-2.

Drury (20-14) held a 2-0 lead throughout most of the afternoon, mounting its lone scoring rally in the top of the first when Jackson Crider was hit by a pitch and Logan Reidelberger launched a two-run shot to right on the first pitch he saw from UCM starter Landon Jaynes.

From there, however, a string of seven UCM pitchers combined to blank the Panthers on four hits over the final 8 2/3 innings. Landon Krohn turned in 2.0 hitless innings and Treyton DesLauriers followed with a pair of strikeouts over his two scoreless frames. Carson Cooper (1-0) worked a scoreless seventh inning to earn his first victory of the season.

Drury opens a four-game Great Lakes Valley Conference series at Truman State Friday (April 10) evening. First pitch from Bulldog Baseball Park is scheduled for 3 p.m.
