Courtney Spitz is his second season as a graduate assistant coach and fifth season overall as a member of the DU Baseball program this season after serving as a volunteer assistant coach in 2013 upon the completion of his career as a catcher with the Panthers.
In 2014, Spitz was a part of a DU coaching staff that guided the Panthers to a school-record for victories in a 44-13 campaign that resulted in the program's second Great Lakes Valley Conference championship and a trip to the title game in the NCAA-II Midwest Regional, where the Panthers lost 4-2 to eventual national champion Southern Indiana.
The Springfield native and former Kickapoo High School standout hit .353 as a DU senior in 2012, the ninth-highest batting average in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and third on his DU squad. He finished his career with a .322 batting average in 171 at-bats, making 47 starts while playing in 72 games in his three seasons as a Panther.
Spitz, who also provides instruction to area youth when not coaching the Panthers, helped Drury compile a 90-64 record in his three seasons after transferring to DU from Neosho County Community College.
In his first season as a volunteer coach with the Panthers (2013), Drury posted a school-record 39 victories in a 39-17 campaign that produced a GLVC West regular season title, a runner-up finish in the conference tourney and the host role for the NCAA-II MIdwest Regional.
