Former Panthers basketball standout and Drury Athletics Hall of Famer Brandon Kimbrough will be in his eighth year as an assistant coach for the Panthers in the 2018-19 season.
Kimbrough has been a key part of DU squads that have combined to finish 156-44 over the past seven seasons, including an NCAA-II national championship in 2013, and a return trip to the NCAA-II Elite Eight in 2014. During that run, he has been a part of two GLVC championships, five West Division titles in the conference and four teams that have advanced to the NCAA-II tournament.Â
The former DU standout point guard played three seasons for the Panthers from 2004-07 and he named to the all-conference squads, first in the Heartland Conference, then the GLVC, during each of his three years at Drury. He is among just 43 players to have ever topped 1,000 career points as he finished with 1,048 following his three seasons and he still ranks eighth all-time in career assists with 434. Drury fans will always remember Kimbrough, however, as one of the program's all-time great clutch players as he connected on a game-winning shot at the buzzer nine different times during his career.Â
Following his senior season, Kimbrough earned the Dr. Curt Strube Award for leadership and academic excellence.Â
After graduating from Drury in 2007, Kimbrough played professionally for three seasons in Europe earning all-league honors in England with the Manchester Magic for two years, and he was the 2011 Import of the Year in Germany playing for the Noerdingen Giants where he averaged 25.4 points, 5.1 assists and 3.8 rebounds that season.
Â
He returned to Drury for the 2011-12 season as a graduate assistant coach and earned a Master’s degree in Education in 2013. Kimbrough also played for coach Hesser at Glendale High School in Springfield and, in addition to earning all-state honors for the Falcons, he was named the city’s Most Valuable Senior Player by the Springfield Tipoff Club in 2003.
