Luke Karamitros is in for his second season as head coach for the Drury cross country and track & field programs.
Karamitros took over the cross country and track & field programs at Drury in January of 2024.
In the 2024-25 season, the men's track & field program finished fourth place indoors and seventh place outdoors, and the women placed 11th indoors and 13th outdoors at the GLVC Championship. Drury men's outdoor track & field produced the program's first All-American as Nolan Moeller finished 7th nationally in the 800-meter run. Tyler Harris, Nolan Moeller, and Amelia White earned All-Region honors.
In his first season, the DU women's team came in seventh in the GLVC Championships, and the men's squad was ninth. At the GLVC indoor track & field championships, both teams posted eighth-place finishes. Women's track & field had Jolie McClellan finish 14th in the javelin, and Ashley Childers produced provisional qualifying marks in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash.
Before he came to Drury, Karamitros spent four years as the head coach for men's and women's cross country and three seasons as the men's and women's head track & field coach. He also served as a volunteer assistant coach for the cross country and track & field programs at national power Adams State and competed at Southwest Baptist.
Karamitros led Chadron State to their best finish at the NCAA-II South Regional in program history, guiding the men's team to a 12th place finish in the 25-team field, and the women's squad to 16th place among 26 teams. The finish for the Chadron State men's team marked a 10-spot improvement from the previous year. In addition, Chadron State's roster grew from 13 student-athletes in cross country to 34 during his four-year tenure, and the program produced 22 women's runners and 15 men's runners who were named to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll.
At Adams State, Karamistros was part of four NCAA-II National Championship teams, serving as a volunteer assistant for the men's cross country teams that won back-to-back titles in 2016 and 2017, was a women's assistant for their championship team in 2017 and was on the staff for a women's indoor track & field national championship in 2017. He helped coach 52 NCAA-II All-Americans during his three years at Adams State.
Karamitros competed at Southwest Baptist and earned all-conference honors in the MIAA, was an All-South Central Region selection in 2014, and was on two teams that reached the NCAA-II National Championship meet. He graduated from SBU in 2016 with a degree in Sports Management and has a Master's degree in Applied Sports Psychology from Adams State.
Originally from Fort Worth, Texas, Karamitros lived in Shenyang, China, from the age of 8 to 17, then returned to the United States to graduate from Atlantic High School in Iowa.
