David Winton

David Winton enters his fourth season as head coach of the Drury women’s triathlon program.
 
Wilton joined the Panthers on Feb. 4, 2021, and has led the program to one regional championship, 11 NCAA-II All-American honors, and six All-Region honors.
 
Last year, Wilton led the Panthers to a third-place finish at the NCAA-II National Championship. The team hosted and finished first in the West Regional. The Panthers also won the UIndy Super Sprint. Five athletes earned All-American honors, and three earned All-Region honors. 
 
During the 2023 season, the Panthers finished fourth in the NCAA-II National Championship and second in the West Regional. Four athletes earned All-American honors, and two earned All-Region honors. 
 
In Winton’s first season, the team finished fourth in the NCAA-II National Championship and second in the West Regionals. Jayme Sue Vermaas finished runner-up in the national championship. The Panthers had two athletes earn All-American honors and one earn all-region.

Winton comes to Drury from the University of San Francisco, where he served as an assistant coach for triathlon last fall. Prior to that assignment, he was the head track & field coach and head cross country coach at Bishop Ready High School in Columbus, Ohio. He also worked for The Spot Athletics as a strength and conditioning coach for two years.
 
Winton has also been an active competitor in triathlon, competing as a member of Ohio State's team from 2018-2020. He was a triathlon All-American and Ironman All-World Athlete at the Gold level (the top 1%) from 2014-17. He competed in the 2016 Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, and the 2016 70.3 World Championship at Sunshine Coast, Australia.
 
Between stints in Columbus, Winton was the director of the Breakaway Performance program at The Bay Club Company in San Francisco, CA, from 2013-2018. The Bay Club Company is a fitness company and triathlon club in the San Francisco area. While there, Winton worked his way from intern to head coach, to director.
 
Winton earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio University in Exercise Physiology in 2011. He also has a Master's Degree in Sports Coaching from the Ohio State University. Along with his two degree's, David Winton is also a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a USA triathlon level 2E Coach.
