PREP/PREVIOUS SCHOOL...Drury women's basketball coach Steve Huber has received a signed commitment from Amber Dvorak, a 6-foot-7 transfer from the University of Minnesota, to play for the Lady Panthers in the 2013-14 season . . . Dvorak, who will become the tallest player in the Lady Panthers program's 14-year history, played two seasons for the NCAA Division I Golden Gophers, sitting out last year to concentrate on obtaining a Masters degree. . . ."I am excited to have Amber joining the Drury University basketball family," Huber said. "In addition to being a great asset inside and a dominant post presence, Amber fits the Drury mold and displays values on and off the court that positively reflects our program . . . Amber is very excited about this opportunity . . . Her strengths include the ability to score in the low post, a soft touch around the basket and defensively, the chance to alter the game with her height . . . I am so excited for the opportunity to coach her." . . . The Hinckley, Minn., native played in 23 games for the Gophers in 2011-12 and earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Academic squad after seeing action in 11 games in 2010-11. . . Dvorak redshirted in 2009-10 after an outstanding prep career at Hinckley-Finlayson High School, where she was a three-time All-Great River Conference honoree after netting 1,809 points, 1,106 rebounds and 515 blocked shots as a prep star. . . Dvorak averaged 25.0 points and 11.5 rebounds as a senior, including a 49-point game against East Central High School. . . "I'm very excited to join the great group of girls and coaches at Drury," Dvorak said. "It's a big change coming from the University of Minnesota, and it's going to be a new experience for me, but I'm very excited. . . My main focus the last four years was on education, but I want to rediscover my love for basketball. . . I drove down to (Springfield) on Memorial Day weekend and I loved it . . . It was a beautiful campus and really felt like a community. I think it will feel like home." . . . Dvorak says she was recruited out of high school by Huber when the latter was a top assistant at Creighton, adding "I was very excited to hear from him . . . it's nice to know someone still wanted me, and I would get the chance to end my basketball career on a positive note." . . . She becomes the third newcomer for the Lady Panthers this season, joining high school signees Paige Wilson (Bartlesville, OK), and Hannah Dressler (Columbia, MO) for a squad that finished 14-13 overall last season.
