PREP/PREVIOUS SCHOOL...
Drury's Lady Panthers have addressed a need for experience in the backcourt with the addition of former Springfield Kickapoo and Eckerd College basketball standout Annie Armstrong, coach Steve Huber announced on Wednesday . . . Armstrong, a 5-foot-8 sophomore guard, will have three years of eligibility remaining with the Lady Panthers after returning to Springfield as a transfer following an outstanding debut collegiate season at Eckerd, where she averaged 11.0 points and 3.7 rebounds and was named the Sunshine States Conference Freshman of the Year for the school located in St. Petersburg, Fla . . . Armstrong, who also led the SSC in free-throw percentage (.872), 3-point percentage (.479) and was second in the league in overall FG percentage (.518), was also the lone freshman on the league's All-Newcomer team last season. She helped Eckerd's Tritons to a 14-12 record, including a season-high, 26-point effort in a win over then-nationally 10th-rankedTampa. Armstrong made three or more 3-pointers in a game six times in her 22 contests (missing four due to injury), hitting four treys in a game twice. . . .She also grabbed five or more rebounds nine times last season, including a season-high nine against Rollins in early December. . . Was a First Team All-Ozarks, All-Ozark Conference and Class 5A All-District selection while lettering three years for Coach Jim Pendergrass at Kickapoo and averaging 17.3 ppg, 3.6 apg., and shooting 43% from three-point range, 49% from the floor and 85% from the free throw line . . . Named Missouri Basketball Coaches Association All-State for 2011-12 and was a Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association First Team All-State selection for 2011-12 . . . Annie earned Stephanie Phillips Classic and Creator Designs All-Tournament team honors . . . "We're very pleased to have Annie come home and join our squad ... her experience is the No. 1 thing," Huber said. "Along with freshman point guard Paige Wilson, one of the needs I really wanted to address was finding an experienced point guard. With what Annie has done in one season at Eckerd, she comes to us with a year of D-II experience, which I think is very valuable for this team . . . "In the last nine weeks, we've probably looked at 8 to 10 point guards."
