James Henderson was named Drury’s assistant track & field coach in 2023-24 and will enter his first season with the Panthers.
Coach “Hendu” comes to Drury after a successful coaching career at the high school and club level. He was previously the head coach at Sabino High School in Tuscon, Arizona, and in four years established the program as one of the premier track & field teams in the state at the 3A level. In 2021, he guided the girls to a state runner-up finish and coached seven individual state champions as well as eight state placers. Coach Hendu’s athletes nearly rewrote the team records in four years setting new standards in the 100, 200, 400, 4x100 relay, 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, long jump, high jump, and triple jump.
Prior to Sabino, Henderson was an assistant at Bonney Lake High School in Washington, where he helped the boys team to a second place state during his four-year tenure. At the USA Track & Field club level, coach Hendu helped produce eight All-Americans with the Hill and Valley Track Club.
A native of Graham, Washington, Coach Hendu attended Central Oregon Community College, Highline Community College and graduated with a degree in Health & Wellness from Kaplan University in December 2015. He also holds a Level 1 Certification from USATF.
