With their break for final exams completed, the No. 16 Drury Lady Panthers jump back into competition on Monday with a visit to Central Missouri for a non-conference matchup with a 5:30 p.m. tipoff in Warrensburg.
Coach
Molly Miller's Lady Panthers are 5-2 overall, having been idle since posting an 80-58 victory over Missouri Science and Technology on December 4 in Rolla. Central Missouri is 6-2 entering the contest in the Multipurpose Building on the UCM campus.
While Drury slipped three spots to No. 16 in this week's WBCA/USA TODAY Top 25 Poll, Central Missouri fell out of the rankings, ending a 33-week streak of appearing in the poll that dated back to January, 2013. The Lady Panthers' two losses were to No. 6 Pittsburg State (81-75 at The O' on November 28) and at No. 11 Washburn (87-79 in OT on Nov. 20).Â
Shelby Winklemann, a 5-9 junior transfer from Nebraska, leads the Jennies with her 16.8 points per game average.
UCM coach Dave Slifer is sixth in all-time D-II coaching victories with 585 career victories. His Jennies are 103-30 in his time at the Multipurpose Building.
Annie Armstrong averages 15.9 points and
Sanayika Shields adds 10.6 points and 10.0 rebounds to lead the Lady Panthers, who are the nation's top free-throw shooting team with their combined .854 accuracy at the line through seven games.Â
Drury and UCM are tied at 2-all in the all-time series, with this representing their first meeting since the 2009 season. The Lady Panthers are 2-2 in matchups with teams from the MIAA this season, including victories over Southwest Baptist and Northeastern State. The Jennies were preseason picks for fifth in the MIAA poll this season.
