Panthers, Cardinals To Hook Up Saturday In GLVC West Battle

Coming off an impressive showing at Rockhurst on Thursday, the Drury Panthers will try to make it a KC sweep of their Great Lakes Valley Conference road swing when they take on William Jewell College in a 3:15 p.m. tipoff Saturday in Liberty.

Coach Steve Hesser's Panthers were 74-50 winners on Thursday against the Hawks to improve to 10-4 overall and 4-2 in the GLVC, trailing UMSL and Maryville (both 4-1) by just a game in the West Division standings.

Drake Patterson scored a season-high 17 points, including five 3-pointers for the second time in his last three games, and Cameron Adams also scored 17 points as Drury busted it open against Rockhurst with an early second-half burst. Adams' output leaves with him an even 1,300 points for his four-year DU career, 21st on he all-time school scoring charts. (He needs 18 points to move past Chris Ijames and into the Top 20).

DaShaun Stark went 4-for-4 from 3-point range and scored a season-high 12 points, matched by Panthers junior guard Kameron Bundy, as DU matched a season-high with 10 3-pointers, shot 55 percent from the field for the game while limiting the Hawks to 33 percent.

Hesser's Panthers - whose losses have been to three Top 10-ranked teams (Indianapolis, Bellarmine, Tarleton State) and a Northwest Missouri State in the "Others Receiving Votes" category of the national poll - will be taking on a Jewell team that's 7-7 overall and 3-3 in the GLVC after defeating Missouri S&T 81-71 on Thursday in Liberty.

Coach Larry Holley's Cardinals received 23 points - including a 7-for-11 showing from 3-point range - from Jordan Lewis, a 6-0 senior, in the win. Darius Tomlin, a 5-9 junior, added 14 points and 6-5 sophomore D'Vante Mosby had nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Tomlin averages 13.3 points and Mosby adds 12.9 points and 8.0 rebounds to lead the Cardinals.

Bundy averages 16.7 points and Adams adds 16.6 to lead the Panthers, who receive 11.6 points and 5.4 rebounds from senior forward Mike Nwelue, who went down with a leg injury in the loss at Rockhurst, leaving his status in question for the matchup with the Cardinals.

Drury leads the all-time series with the Cardinals 35-30 after the teams split their two meetings last season - the Panthers winning 79-56 in Springfield, with WJC turning the tables with a 65-60 triumph later in Liberty, one of just four losses by DU on the season.

Saturday's game can be heard on JOCK 98.7 FM (streamed live at www.jock987.com), and can be seen in a free, live webcast at www.jewellcardinals.com/watch.
