Panthers Roll Over Maryville 71-54 For Third Straight GLVC Victory

ST. LOUIS - Kameron Bundy scored 22 points to lead Drury to a 71-54 victory over Maryville in their Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup here on Thursday night, the Panthers third consecutive victory.

Freshman Trevor Clay added a career-high 13 points and Cameron Adams added 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds for the Panthers, who improved to 12-4 overall and maintained their share of first place in the GLVC West with a 6-2 mark - tied with UMSL, whom Drury visits Saturday afternoon (3:15 p.m.) in St. Louis.

Maryville fell to 9-8 and 4-4.

Drury held a 45-27 lead at halftime, and led by as many as 24 points in the second half before Maryville gained some ground at the end thanks to 15 second-half turnovers and a 7-for-20 shooting after after halftime by the Panthers.

"We really did some nice things in the first half," Drury coach Steve Hesser said. "We really moved the basketball, and guys stepped up and made big shots. And then the second half ... we've got to go grow up. It was ugly, ugly basketball. The games are 40 minutes long. Regardless of what the score is, it's 'what I do on this possession, and what I do on the next possession,' because it's all about habits."

"I'm very, very proud of them in the first half, and we got contributions frmo several people. But give Maryville some credit, because they kept trying. It's a good win ... Coach Carroll does a great job, and they're a hard team to prepare against with their schemes and things."

The Panthers forced 26 turnovers, with 13 in each half. Drury scored the game's first seven points, and after Maryville answered with four points, the Panthers countered with an 11-4 run to get the lead into double-digits and didn't look back from there.

Bundy made four 3-pointers (all in the first half) and added five assists and three steals in his best performance in nearly a month. He had averaged just over 10 points in the Panthers previous four games, and his 22 points were most since a 26-point effort on December 6 at Missouri S&T for the returning All-GLVC First Team selection.

Trae Pemberton had 20 points to lead the Saints, who trailed by 18 at halftime despite shooting 52 percent (11 of 21) from the field. They made just 7 of 19 shots after halftime and finished at 45 percent (18 of 40).

The Panthers will stay in St. Louis to play UMSL - a 78-64 winner over Missouri S&T at home on Thursday - in a showdown Saturday for outright first place in the West, and the last of four consecutive GLVC games on the road. Drury will come home after Saturday's game to play seven of its final nine at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.

"This is a tough trip," Hesser said. "Both teams are very good and play with a lot of pride ... we'll have to come out and be ready to play."
