Game NotesA red-hot, nationally 15th-ranked Drury Lady Panthers squad will look to push its winning streak to eight games when it plays host to Bellarmine in a 1 p.m. Great Lakes Valley Conference tipoff Saturday afternoon at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
First-year coach
Molly Miller's Lady Panthers are 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the GLVC after Thursday night's 64-54 victory over East power Southern Indiana at The O' before 17 and 15 points, respectively, from the junior backcourt duo of
Annie Armstrong and
Addy Roller.
Drury will be entertaining a Bellarmine squad that's 8-3 overall and 3-0 in the GLVC after the Knights picked up a 65-61 victory Thursday night at Missouri S&T in Rolla.
Saturday's game will be the second of this week featuring "Educator Appreciation Days," with all area school teachers, administrators and employees at any level - as well as their families - admitted free with a valid school ID presented at the O'Reilly ticket window before the game. That ticket also gets fans in for the Drury vs. No. 6 Bellarmine men's basketball showdown that follows, at approximately 3:15 p.m.
Drury Baseball will also be wrapping up its annual Canned Food Drive for the Ozarks Food Harvest, with fans encouraged to bring a canned good or non-perishable item and placing it in the bins located near both entrances to The O' on Saturday.
Miller's DU squad has not lost since falling 78-73 to currently nationally fifth-ranked Pittsburg State at The O' on November 28. Drury's other loss was to current No. 13 Washburn in overtime in Topeka, Kan., on November 22.Â
Armstrong, the nation's leading free-throw shooter at 98 percent (44 of 45), leads Drury in scoring with her 13.8 points per game. Senior post
Sanayika Shields adds 11.8 points and a team-high 9.3 rebounds, while Roller contributes 10.8 points and 3.5 assists and leads the GLVC in assist/turnover ratio (2.79).
Bellarmine features a balanced attack as well, with nine players averaging between 5.6 and 11.7 points. Whitney Hartlage, a 5-8 sophomore, comes off the bench to lead the Knights with her 11.7 points per game, while sophomore guard Destony Curry adds 11.2 points for the Knights, who receive 7.9 points and a team-high 7.0 rebounds from 5-9 senior Morgan Clemons.
Drury holds an 8-1 lead in the all-time series with the Knights, including an 82-75 win in Louisville last season, the Lady Panthers' fifth straight win against BU.
Saturday's game will be televised by Mediacom Connections 22, with replays set for 1 p.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. Monday throughout the Mediacom viewing area. It can also be heard on JOCK 98.7 FM (streamed live at jock987.com), and can be viewed in a free, live webcast at www.drurypanthers.com/watch.
