No. 11 Lady Panthers Cruise Past Washburn 66-46 Saturday At The O'

Alice Heinzler and Heather Harman scored 15 points each and Annie Armstrong added 11 as No. 11 Drury rolled to a 66-46 victory over Washburn in a non-conference matchup of traditional women's basketball powers Saturday evening at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.

Drury (2-0) limited Washburn (3-1) to 38 percent shooting from the field (19 of 50), including an 8-for-29 effort in the second half (28 percent) in defeating the Ichabods for the fifth time in the 15-game series between the two, in which the home team has won the last five meetings.

It was also the most lopsided win by the Lady Panthers in the series and came on "DU Sports Hall of Fame Day" at The O', as the Lady Panthers saw two of their past stars - Lindsay (Ballweg) Martin and Melanie Oliver - inducted in the 21st class of the Drury athletics shrine.

Drury led 13-10 after one quarter, and stretched that advantage to 31-24 by halftime. The Lady Panthers outscored the Ichabods 22-11 in the third period to pull away for the victory.

No Washburn player reached double-figures, as Jayna Smith led the Ichabods with eight points and seven rebounds off the bench. Washburn claimed a final 32-29 rebounding advantage; Brook Duncan and Emily Miller had six rebounds each to lead the Lady Panthers.

Drury had just 10 turnovers in the contest while forcing 18 by the visitors.

The Lady Panthers are back in action at The O' on Tuesday, when they complete a three-game stretch against MIAA teams by hosting Central Missouri in a 6 p.m. start. It's "Team Poster Night" at The O', with the Lady Panthers sticking around on the floor to autograph the 2015-16 team schedule posters and shoot hoops with the young fans ... kids 12-and-under are admitted free to all DU home regular season basketball games.
