No. 8 Lady Panthers Roll Past Concordia 93-65 In Ramada Plaza/Oasis Convention Center Classic Opener

Hannah Dressler scored 14 points to lead five Lady Panthers in double-figures and No. 8 Drury rolled past Concordia University of St. Paul (Minn.) 93-65 in the opening game of the Ramada Plaza Hotel/Oasis Convention Center Thanksgiving Classic Friday evening at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.

Paige Wilson added 13 points - on 6-for-6 shooting - while Alice Heinzler added 12 points and Briana Jones and Adrienne Horn had 11 points each for the Lady Panthers, who improved to 4-0 as all 11 DU players found the scoring column.

Caitlyn Russell had 23 points to lead Concordia (3-2), which earlier this month had knocked off perennial national power and then-eighth ranked Michigan Tech.

"I thought this was going to be a challenge for us ... their guards are pretty quick," Drury coach Molly Miller said. "I think it helped that we got (Mishayla) Jones in foul trouble early on, and she had to sit a little bit. That was key for us being to capitalize with her out of the game.

"This was a team effort ... everyone from 1 to 11 contributed and did a great job. That's what you need when you play back-to-back days ... we were able to share the minutes."

Drury led 25-12 after one period, courtesy of a 15-0 run after Concordia scored the game's first basket. Dressler scored the first five points in the run, which also included a Heinzler 3-pointer and a three-point play from Addy Roller.

Another 25-point quarter pushed the Lady Panthers' lead to 50-27 by the half. The Lady Panthers shot 56 percent from the field in the first half (18 of 32), and got hotter after the break. DU made 18 of 27 attempts over the final two quarters and finished at a season-best 61 percent (36 of 59) for the game.

Drury finished with a 33-32 edge in rebounding, with five rebounds from Dressler and four each from Heinzler, Jones, Roller and Heather Harman, who also had a team-high five assists and two steals in 21 minutes of play off the bench.

"Twenty assists ... that's unselfish basketball," Miller said. "That's all, as a coach, you can ask for."

Kyrah Fredenburg had 14 rebounds for Concordia, which shot just 40 percent from the field (24 of 60).

Drury returns to the court at The O' on Saturday for a 5:30 p.m. matchup with Trevecca Nazarene in the Thanksgiving Classic. It's "Santa Saturday," with the jolly ol' fellow appearing from 3 to 7 p.m. on the Panther Deck for pictures with the kids and to accept their Christmas wish lists.

Trevecca played Maryville in Friday's late contest at The O'.
