Drury will look to regain momentum for the stretch run when the Panthers take on No. 12 Wisconsin-Parkside in a 3 p.m. Great Lakes Valley Conference tipoff Saturday in Kenosha, Wis.
Coach
Steve Hesser's Panthers (16-6, 10-4 in the GLVC) fell 76-52 at hot-shooting Lewis on Thursday to see their GLVC West lead shrink to one game over Truman State after the Bulldogs pounded visiting Saint Joseph's 112-75. Truman has a big challenge at home on Saturday with No. 7 Indianapolis (20-2, 12-2) visiting Kirksville before the Bulldogs finish the regular season with a home game vs. UMSL and away contests against Maryville and Quincy.
The Panthers have a tall task on their hands Saturday against the Rangers (21-2, 13-1), who have flown under the national D-II radar yet again for much of the season. Coach Luke Reigel's  Parkside squad has won five straight and is tied with Bellarmine for the East lead, after beating Missouri S&T 94-70 Thursday in Kenosha, where the Rangers are 11-1 this season (the lone loss an 80-79 setback to Walsh on November 29).
Parkside is the league's stingiest team defensively, allowing just 61.7 points per game.Â
The Rangers feature two of the league's top 12 scorers in 6-3 junior Jimmy Gavin (15.7 ppg) and 6-9 senior Zygimantas Riauka (14.8 ppg), the latter also ranking fifth in the league in rebounding at 7.9 boards per game and leading the GLVC in blocked shots per contest (1.74). Andy Mazurczak, a 6-2 junior, adds 11.9 points per game for the Rangers.
Kameron Bundy averages 17.4 points and
Cameron Adams adds 17.0 points and 5.9 rebounds to lead the Panthers. Adams was the only DU player to reach double-figures, with 10 points, in Thursday's loss at Lewis, in which Bundy went 1-for-9 and had just seven points and the Panthers made just 18 of 57 (32 percent) from the field. Lewis shot 58 percent from the floor (31 of 53), including 75 percent in the second half (18 of 24) in breaking the game open for just their second win in 12 tries against DU.
Saturday's game can be heard on JOCK 98.7 FM (streamed live at www.jock987.com). It also can be seen in a live webcast at www.parksiderangers.com/watch.
GAME NOTES*Drury leads the all-time series with Parkside 8-2, including a memorable 54-52 Panthers victory last year in Springfield. After the Rangers had tied the game on two Mazurczak free throws with three seconds left, the Panthers won it when
Mael Amenyedzi hauled in a length-of-the-court baseball pass and laid it in at the final horn. Mazurczak had 18 points and Riauka had 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Rangers, while Bundy scored 16 points to pace Drury.Â
*Thursday's .317 field-goal shooting percentage (18 of 57) against Lewis was Drury's lowest in Hesser's 324 games (in 11 seasons) with the Panthers. Lewis' .585 FG percentage (31 of 53) was the highest against DU since Parkside shot .627 (32 of 51) in a 90-88 overtime victory at The O' on January 5, 2013, the Panthers' NCAA-II national championship season.
*Adams now has 1,442 points for his four-year DU career, 18th on the all-time school scoring list. He needs seven points to move past Marc Ridlen (1,448 from 1980-84) and into 17th place. After his 10-point, 11-rebound effort Thursday, Adams now has double-doubles in three of his last four games and four on the season.
*Bundy now has 1,077 points in his three years as a Panther, ranking him 34th on the all-time DU list.
*The Panthers outrebounded Lewis 32-30 for their fifth consecutive game (and eighth time in their last nine games) of grabbing more boards than their opponent.Â
*Since shooting a season-high 36 free throws in a January 31 win over Quincy, Drury has attempted a total of 37 free throws over its last three games.
*After Saturday's game at Parkside, Drury will return home for its final three games of the regular season, hosting William Jewell (Feb. 19), Rockhurst (Feb. 21) and Missouri S&T (Feb. 26). For tickets, call
(417) 873-6389 or visit the O'Reilly Center Box Office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
