No. 11 Lady Panthers Fight Past Rockhurst For 71-68 GLVC Victory On Overflow The O' Day

Sanayika Shields scored 16 points to lead three Lady Panthers in double-figures and No. 11 Drury fought past Rockhurst for a 71-68 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory on Overflow The O' Saturday at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.

Addy Roller added 15 points and Annie Armstrong had 14 points as the Lady Panthers improved to 22-3 overall and 16-1 in the GLVC with their 10th consecutive victory. Rockhurst fell to 11-14 and 5-12.

Drury led 34-29 at the half after once holding a 16-point advantage about midway through. The Lady Panthers were up 13 (62-49) with 4:49 to go in the game before Rockhurst made a final surge, cutting it to the final three-point decision on a Mary Dineen jumper with eight seconds left.

But Drury got the ball in bounds against Rockhurst pressure and into the hands of Armstrong, the nation's leading free-throw percentage shooter, and the Hawks chose not to foul as the clock ran out.

"Rockhurst came in here with nothing to lose and hit some great shots and made it a close game, so a lot of credit goes to that team," Drury coach Molly Miller said. "What we learned from this game is we have to bring the same energy and effort level night in and night out as we head into post-season play."

Dineen finished with 22 points to lead Rockhurst, which fell to 1-29 in the all-time series.

Drury matched the Hawks on the boards with 35 apiece, with Shelby White pulling down 10 to lea the Lady Panthers and Shields adding six.

The Lady Panthers return to action on Thursday, hosting Missouri S&T in the regular season finale for Senior Night. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m., and Drury will honor seniors Shields and White in pre-game festivities.
