JOPLIN – The Drury Softball Panthers earned a Tuesday split vs. Missouri Southern winning the nightcap 3-0 and falling in the opener 5-4.
Drury is now 8-10 and Missouri Southern goes to 3-15.
In the nightcap
Kari Hillenburg scored on an error and an RBI double by
Grace Hargadon made it a 2-0 first inning lead. Hargadon came through again in the third inning with an RBI single to score Hillenburg and make it 3-0. Hargadon went 2-for-3 for the game to pace the Panthers who finished with eight hits. Hargadon, Hillenburg and
Carson Forge each had two hits.
Jessica Kjeldgaard (4-4) earned the win with seven strikeouts and allowed just three hits. Ashley Lutz (2-7) received the loss with six strikeouts.
In the opener
Shelby Weissenbach got the Panthers on the board in the opening inning on an RBI single to plate Hillenburg. The Lions answered with an RBI single of their own to tie it up in the fourth. Drury took a 3-1 lead in the fifth on a two RBI single by Forge to plate
Jordan Herman and Hillenburg. Forge scored on a wild pitch to end the fifth and make it a 4-1 lead. Southern rallied in the fifth inning and scored four runs on four hits for a 5-4 win.
Weissenbach (4-4) received the loss for DU with Kali' Hodson (1-7) getting the win for the Lions. Both teams had 11 hits with Forge having three hits and two RBIs and Hillenburg and
Jordan Herman each having two hits.
The Drury Softball Panthers will host Southern Indiana in GLVC action at Thompson Field on Saturday with action set to start at noon.
