Baseball Panthers Head To Saint Joseph's For Weekend GLVC Series

Drury Baseball will play its first road Great Lakes Valley Conference series of the season this weekend when the Panthers visit Saint Joseph's for doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday (noon starts) in Rensselaer, Ind.

Coach Scott Nasby's Panthers are 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the GLVC after splitting their league-opening, four-game series with Lewis last Sunday and Monday at Meador Park. They followed that with a 4-3 non-conference win over Southwest Baptist on Tuesday at Meador.

They'll be taking on a Saint Joseph's team that's 5-8 overall and 1-3 in the GLVC after dropping three of four games last weekend at William Jewell, salvaging a 9-8 victory over the Cardinals in the series finale.

The Pumas are batting .252 as a team (14th in the GLVC), but rank third in the league in staff ERA at 3.34. Drury is hitting .284 (tied for 10th in the league) and has a staff ERA of 4.35 (seventh). Junior outfielder Chase Fieldhouse is hitting .333 with 16 RBIs to pace the offense, while seniors Jake Harper (2.60 ERA, 16 strikeouts) and Jordan Peterson (2.25, 13 strikeouts) lead the SJC pitching staff for coach Rick O'Dette's squad.

Senior first baseman Luke Tewes is batting .420 with five homers and 15 RBIs to lead DU in all three categories. Senior outfielder Dallas Williams is hitting .405 with nine RBIs, while senior catcher Tyler Arthur is hitting .343 with three homers and 12 RBIs.

Arthur was 7-for-12 with five runs scored, two homers and seven RBIs in the Lewis series, while Tewes is 10-for-21 with four runs, two homers and six RBIs over his last five games. Williams, on a current five-game hit streak, has six hits in his last seven at-bats over the Panthers last two games as DU has raised its team batting average from .226 to .284 over the last five contests.

Junior lefty Luke Burnidge has a 2-1 record and 2.65 ERA to pace the pitching staff, while senior closer Gage Jacobs has three saves in five appearances to go with a 4.26 ERA.

Drury leads the all-time series with the Pumas 7-3, with five straight victories for the Panthers.
