Drury Softball will look to knock off a pair of traditional top Great Lakes Valley Conference foes when the Panthers play host to Quincy (Sunday) and Truman State (Monday) in doubleheaders beginning at noon each day at Thompson Field in Meador Park.
Coach
Chantiel Wilson's Panthers are 8-14 overall and 1-7 in the GLVC entering Sunday's matchup with the Hawks (12-12, 3-5). Truman State is tied for the league lead at 7-1 (and is 17-5 overall) entering games at Missouri S&T on Sunday (The Bulldogs were originally slated to play at DU on Saturday, but was shifted to Monday due to wet grounds in Rolla).
The Panthers will look to get it going at home after dropping four games to No. 17 Southern Indiana and Bellarmine last weekend at Thompson, including a 1-0 decision to the Knights in the latter that featured a strong pitching effort from sophomore
Jessica Kjeldgaard. She allowed seven hits and no runs in going the distance, striking out two and walking one in falling to 4-6 on the season.
Senior third baseman
Carson Forge is hitting .343 with six homers and 18 RBIs to lead the Panthers, who are batting .231 as a team. Sophomore shortstop
Kari Hillenburg is hitting .282, leads the team with four stolen bases and is second behind only Forge (17) with her 16 runs scored.
Kjeldgaard is 4-6 with a 2.32 ERA and junior
Shelby Weissenbach is 4-6 with a 3.98 ERA to head the pitching staff, which has a 3.17 ERA.
Quincy is batting .277 as a team and has a pitching staff ERA of 2.37, ranking fifth among GLVC teams in the latter.
Rachel Scrum is batting .427 with four homers and 14 RBIs and Kelsey Lea is hitting .309 with six homers and 14 driven in to lead the Hawks, who've dropped four of their last five games. Pitcher Murphi Armstrong is 5-5 with a 1.26 ERA to pace the QU staff.
Truman State will take a .325 batting average (fourth in the GLVC) and 2.28 staff ERA (also fourth) into Sunday's twinbill at S&T.
