ST. LOUIS - The Drury Softball Panthers earned a Great Lakes Valley Conference split at Maryville winning the nightcap 4-3 after falling 6-1 in the opener here on Saturday
Drury is now 14-22 overall and 7-13 in the GLVC and Maryville goes to 11-24 overall and 7-13 in the GLVC.
Drury jumped on the Saints early in the nightcap scoring three runs in the opening inning for a 3-0 lead when
Shelby Weissenbach had an RBI double and later scored on a wild pitch.Â
Grace Hargadon capped the scoring off in the first with an RBI double. The Saints got on the board with an RBI single in the first.Â
Alyssa Sargent would then take advantage of a Saints error in the second to make it 4-1 Panthers.Â
The Saints pulled to within 4-2 when they scored a run on a sacrifice fly in the third and got an RBI single in the seventh to pull to within a run 4-3 but could draw no closer.
Hargadon had two of the Panthers six hits in the contest and Maryville finished with seven hits.
Jessica Kjeldgaard (9-10) earned the win for the Panthers with Sheridon Sprage (2-5) receiving the loss for the Saints.
In the opener an RBI single in the opening inning gave the Saints a 1-0 lead but
Kari Hillenburg hit her fourth homer of the year to tie it up in the top of the third. The Saints responded with five runs on four hits and two errors to go back on top 6-1 in the bottom of the third to claim the win.
Maryville finished with eight hits and Drury had six hits led by Hillenburg who finished with two hits, a run and an RBI.Â
Wendy Macias (7-9) earned the win for Maryville with Kjeldgaard receiving the loss for the Panthers. Â
Next up for the Drury Softball Panthers will be a GLVC road contest at third ranked Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday at noon.
