ST. LOUIS – Hannah Perryman threw an opening game no hitter and UMSL hits seven home runs on the day in helping third ranked UMSL to a GLVC pair sweep 9-0 and 7-3 vs. the Drury Softball Panthers here on Sunday.
UMSL improves to 35-3 overall and 20-2 in the GLVC with Drury going to 14-24 overall and 7-15 in the GLVC.
In the opener the Tritons hit three homers and scored five runs on seven hits in the bottom of the third for a 5-0 lead. UMSL added two runs on three hits in the fifth to extend their lead to 7-0. UMSL hit their fourth homer of the game in the sixth for the 9-0 win. UMSL finished the contest with 14 hits.
Hannah Perryman (19-2) had 12 strikeouts in the no hit performance tied the NCAA career record with four career perfect games.
Jessica Kjeldgaard (9-11) received the loss.
In the nightcap a two run homer by the Tritons in the second made gave UMSL an early lead.
Marissa Ross cut the Triton lead to 2-1 on an RBI single to score
Kari Hillenburg in the Panther third. A two RBI double in the bottom of the third extended the UMSL lead to 4-1. The Panthers battled back to score a run in the fourth and cut the Triton lead to 4-2 on a fourth inning RBI single by
Jordan Herman to plate
Miki Andrus.
UMSL continued the hit the long ball with another two run homer in the bottom of the fourth for a 6-2 lead and added their final run in the fifth on Sarah Kern's third homer on the day. Ross scored on the throw after a
Chantal Oelrich single in the seventh for the Panthers third run.
Drury finished with 11 hits led by Hillenburg who had a team high three hits with
Alyssa Sargent getting two hits and Ross having two. UMSL had 13 hits.
Brittni Chapman (16-1) earned the win for UMSL and
Shelby Weissenbach (5-10) received the loss.
Drury will play at Southwest Baptist on April 14
th with action set to start at 2 p.m. in Bolivar.
