Drury Softball Sweeps McKendree in GLVC Pair Saturday

A Chantal Oelrich homer in the bottom of the sixth gave the Drury Softball Panthers a 3-2 win in the nightcap and a GLVC sweep over McKendree with a 7-0 win in the opener Saturday at Thompson Field.

Drury is now 19-25 overall and 10-16 in the GLVC and McKendree is now 14-30 overall and 6-20 GLVC.

Shelby Weissenbach doubled to plate Kari Hillenburg and Carson Forge in the opening inning to get the Panthers started in the opener.   Marissa Ross blasted her first homer as a Panther in the Panther third to help Drury pull out to a 3-0 lead.

An RBI double by Hillenburg and an RBI single by Ross started a four run on four hits sixth inning.  A wild pitch that allowed Ross to score made it 7-0.

Drury finished with nine hits led by Ross with two hits, two runs and two RBIs.  Forge and Weissenbach also tallied two hits in the contest. McKendree finished with six hits led by two from Ashley Scheffler.

Jessica Kjeldgaard (11-12) earned the first of her two victories on the day for the Panthers with Susan Goetze (3-9) receiving the loss for the Bearcats.

The Bearcats scored their first run of the day on the nightcap with a first inning RBI single on a bunt.  An error and a sacrifice fly by Chantal Oelrich in the Panther first put DU up 2-1.  The Bearcats took advantage of an error in the sixth that allowed McKendree to tie it up.  Oelrich would win the game for the Panthers with a solo shot to center on her eighth homer of the year in the sixth for a 3-2 win.

Kjeldgaard (12-12) earned the win for DU and had three strikeouts in two innings.  Kelsie Stozskus (7-6) received the loss for McKendree.  Drury finished with five hits and the Bearcats had nine hits with Scheffler having two.

Up next for the Drury Softball Panthers will be a non-conference pair vs. Lincoln at Thompson Field on Tuesday with games starting at 3 p.m.
