Shelby Weissenbach hit a two run homer in the sixth inning and had four RBIs and three hits at the plate in the nightcap for a four hit shutout on the mound to lead the Drury Softball Panthers to a non-conference sweep over Rogers State with wins of 6-2 and 8-0 at Thompson Field on Thursday.
Drury, who has now won nine of their last ten games improved to 23-25 and Rogers State drops to 13-30.
In the nightcap Weissenbach hit a two run homer in the bottom of the sixth for an 8-0 run rule win over the Hillcats. Weissenbach (9-10) also had a very good outing allowing just four Rogers State hits.
Drury jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening inning scoring three runs on four hits in the nightcap. RBI single in the second inning by Oelrich and Weissenbach made it 5-0.
Grace Hargadon singled to score Forge in the fourth to extend the lead to 6-0 before Weissenbach blasted one over the right center fence for the 8-0 shutout win.
Drury finished with 14 hits and joining Weissenbach with three hits was
Kari Hillenburg who also scored two runs and Forge who had three hits, three runs and an RBI.
In the opener the Hillcats got on the board first with an RBI single in the first inning and held the lead until the bottom of the fourth when Drury scored runs on an error that Weissenbach scored on followed by a steal of home by
Rachael Michaelis for a 2-1 lead.
The Hillcats tied it up in the top of the fifth when Cailin Simpson homered. In the fifth
Carson Forge put the Panthers back on top with an RBI double to left center to plate
Marissa Ross and a two run error by the Hillcats capped off the fifth for a 5-2 Panther lead.
An RBI fielders choice by
Chantal Oelrich scored Hillenburg in the sixth to cap the Panther scoring off for a 6-2 win.
Jessica Kjeldgaard (14-12) earned the win for the Panthers and with Bailee Kaderka (7-18) receiving the loss.
Up next for the Drury Softball Panthers will be GLVC road contests on Sunday at noon at Wisconsin-Parkside.
