Jessica Kjeldgaard allowed just three hits to help the Drury Softball Panthers to a 3-0 opening game shutout in a GLVC split with Rockhurst winning the nightcap 1-0 at Thompson Field on Monday.
Drury is 13-19 overall and 6-12 in the GLVC and Rockhurst is now 20-12 overall and 11-7 in the GLVC.
In the opener Drury went on top in the third inning when
Jordan Herman and
Kari Hillenburg both scored on a Rockhurst error in the outfield to make it 2-0 Drury. An RBI single by
Marissa Ross plated
Rachael Michaelis in the sixth to seal the 3-0 win for the Panthers.
Hillenburg and Michaelis each had two hits and scored a run in the opener for the Panthers who finished with nine hits. Madison Wagner had two of the Hawks three hits in the contest.
Kjeldgaard (8-8) earned the win with six strikeouts with Demi Plate (4-5) receiving the loss for the Hawks.
In the nightcap Rockhurst scored the games only run in the third inning on an RBI single up the middle by Kelsey Dean. Rockhurst posted six hits and Drury finished with four with
Shelby Weissenbach having two of those.
Bridgette Sappington (16-5) earned the win for the Hawks with five strikeouts and Weissenbach (5-9) received the loss for Drury.
Next up for the Drury softball team will be non-conference pair vs. Missouri Southern at Thompson Field on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
