Baseball Panthers Entertain Quincy In Four-Game GLVC Set At U.S. Baseball Park

The preseason 1-2 picks in the Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division poll - and the last two teams standing in the conference post-season tourney each of the last two years - will square off this weekend in Ozark when Drury takes on Quincy at U.S. Baseball Park.

The Panthers (13-20, 5-7) and the Hawks (22-8, 7-5) will play doubleheaders at noon on Saturday and Sunday at the renovated stadium off Highway 65 and CC on the northern edge of Ozark,  formerly known as Price-Cutter Park before receiving a $2.5 million renovation including a full artificial turf surface and the addition of a giant scoreboard/videoboard among other amenities.

Saturday marks the first "Pack The Park" promotional day at USBP for the Panthers, with $5 tickets available at the gate and promotions throughout the day, including frequent giveaways via drawing of St. Louis Cardinals tickets.

This will mark the second weekend of play at USBP for the Panthers, who split a four-game GLVC set with William Jewell there last weekend.

Drury has defeated Quincy in the GLVC post-season tourney championship game each of the past two years. The Hawks, this season, have been ranked as high as No. 6 nationally after getting off to a 13-3 start, but have gone 9-5 over their last 14 games. Coach Josh Rabe's Hawks took three of four at UMSL last weekend.

Preseason league favorite Quincy is mired in a four-way tie for the West lead at 7-5, with Drury just two games back in a jumbled division race.

Quincy leads the GLVC with a .336 batting average, including 54 homers in 30 games. Ryan Snyder, a senior outfielder, is hitting .468 with 12 homers and 55 RBIs to lead the league in all three categories. David Jacob, a junior first baseman/outfielder, is hitting .437 with eight homers and 38 RBIs, while junior outfielder Dominic Miles leads the league with 50 runs scored.

The Hawks have a 4.38 team ERA.

Junior infielder Ryan Colombo is batting .353 with six steals to lead the Panthers, while senior shortstop John Goodrich is hitting .309 and shares the team lead with Conner Wilson with 14 runs batted in for a DU squad hitting .263 as a unit.

Colombo is 3-4 with a 2.94 ERA and sophomore closer Ryan Wedermyer has a 1.46 ERA and four saves in 13 appearances to pace a DU pitching staff with a combined 5.29 ERA.
