DU Baseball Splits Pair With Maryville In GLVC Play Sunday

ST. CHARLES – The Drury baseball Panthers split a GLVC road pair at Maryville winning 6-5 in the opener and falling 4-3 in the nightcap at the Lindenwood Baseball Field on Sunday.

Drury moves to 15-31 overall and 6-18 in the GLVC and Maryville is 21-23 overall and 12-12 in the GLVC.

In the opener Drury led 2-1 after the opening inning and scored runs on an RBI groundout by Conner Wilson and an RBI single by Ryan Kayhill.  The Saints scored on an RBI double in the bottom of the first.

The fourth inning also was a productive inning for the Panthers as a two RBI single by Ryan Wadkins stretched the lead to 4-1.  A solo homer by Dalton Schumer in the Maryville fourth cut the lead to 4-2.

Maryville tied the game in the fifth on a pair of RBI singles.  Drury added runs in the sixth on an RBI hit by pitch by Ryan Colombo and a seventh inning RBI double by Devan O'Bryan to plate John Goodrich to make it a 6-4 Panther lead.  Maryville tacked on a run in the bottom of the seventh to draw within a run but could draw no closer.

Sterling Sharp (2-5) earned the win and Robbie Gordon (4-3) received the loss for the Saints as both teams finished with nine hits.  Wadkins had two hits, two RBIs and scored a run.

In the nightcap a pair of first inning wild pitches and an RBI single allowed Maryville to go on top 3-0 early.  Drury got on the board in the second with a two RBI single by Justin Abernathy to plate Patrick Hoerning and Goodrich.  Wilson doubled to score Abernathy in the Panther fifth inning to tie it up.

A homer by Louis Niemerg in the bottom of the ninth gave the Saints a 4-3 victory.

Maryville had six hits and Drury finished with five led by Colombo with two.

Brian Quaserbarth (0-2) got the loss for Drury with Josh Bonds (3-3) earning the win for Maryville.

Drury will host Missouri-St. Louis in a four game series starting with a single nine inning game on Friday at the US Baseball League Ballpark in Ozark at 5 p.m.
