OZARK, Mo. – Drury opened the 2017 season with a 3-2 win over Washburn at US Baseball Park in Ozark on Friday.
The Panthers took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth when
Riley Herron drove in two runs with a triple. Drury took advantage of a two-out error in the inning and hung a pair of unearned runs on Ichabods starting pitcher Nick Silva.
Ryan Colombo (1-0) got the win for the Panthers going 7 innings allowing 4 hits and 2 runs with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts.
Nick Silva (2-1) took the loss as the Panthers handed him his first loss in more than two years. The reigning MIAA Pitcher of the Year was 9-0 last season. He went 5.2 innings allowing 7 hits, 3 runs and 1 earned run with no walks and 6 strikeouts in the loss.
Caleb Essick and
KK Daniel both had two hits for Drury going 2 for 4.
The Panthers start the season 1-0 while Washburn dropped to 6-2.
The two teams continue the four-game series with a doubleheader tomorrow. Game one begins at noon at US Baseball Park.
