OZARK, Mo. – In day two of their series Drury dropped a non-conference pair vs. Washburn falling 7-5 in the seven inning opener before losing the nightcap 8-5 at US Baseball Park in Ozark on Saturday.
In the opener, Washburn scored three runs on five hits highlighted by a Riley Krane 2 run homer in the third for a 3-0 lead. Drury would tie it up on an RBI double by
Trevor Courtney in the bottom of the third and a two RBI single by
Nic Perkins.
Washburn went back on top in the fourth on RBI triple by Darian Abram to plate two Ichabods for a 5-3 lead.
Washburn used an RBI single and an error to plate a pair in the fifth and make it 7-3.
Shane Benes kept Drury in the contest when he went deep yard to left center with a two run shot to plate
Caleb Essick in the Panther fifth.
Garrett Woods (0-1) got the loss and Lance Barkley (3-0) earned the win for Washburn with Marcus McKinney getting his fourth save of the year. Benes had a single and homer with a run score to lead the Panthers and Darian Abram had two hits and two RBIs to lead Washburn. The Ichabods had 10 hits to the Panthers nine.
In the nightcap Washburn jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the opening inning by scoring five runs on five hits. Drury scored in the bottom of the second on a throwing error and
Ryan Kayhill capped the inning off with a two run double to pull the Panthers to within 5-3 after 2 innings.
Washburn added runs on an RBI double by Brett Nickle and an RBI triple by Casey Clark in the fifth to make it 7-3. An RBI double off the wall in right center by Courtney scored Kayhilll to cut the lead to 7-4 in the Panther fifth. The Ichabods tacked on a run in the top of the seventh to make it 8-4.
In the eighth Essick had an RBI infield single to cut the lead to 8-5 with the bases loaded but the Panthers could draw no closer.
Washburn had 12 hits to the Panthers 10 with Benes getting three hits and going 5-for-7 with five hits on the day.
Langdon Simkins (0-1) got the loss for the Panthers and Jacob Head (3-2) earned the win with six K's in 6.1 innings.
The Panthers move to 1-2 while Washburn goes to 8-2.
The two teams with play the last game of their four-game series tomorrow at noon at US Baseball Park.
