BENTONVILLE, Ark. – The Drury softball Panthers dropped a pair in day two of action at the Eight State Classic dropping the opener 7-2 vs. Southwest Baptist and losing 7-2 to Emporia State in the nightcap.
Drury goes to (1-3), Southwest Baptist improved to (5-2) and Emporia State is now (8-8).
In the opener vs. SBU, Drury opened with a pair of first inning runs and Southwest Baptist answered with five of their on in the bottom of the first. The Bearcats tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 7-2 final.
Hannah Hearst, a freshman from Barnhart, Mo./Windsor High School, had two RBIs for the Panthers. SBU was led by Evans who had 3 RBIs and two hits. Catlin Evans had 3 RBIs and a pair of hits to lead SBU who outhit Drury 11-3.
Destiny Bolen (1-1) received the loss with Kacey Ayers-Evans (4-1) earning the win for SBU.
In the nightcap Emporia State scored a run in the bottom of the first to go on top before Drury tied it up in the third on an error that allowed
Kari Hillenburg to score. Emporia made it a 5-1 lead in the fourth by scoring four runs on three hits.
Drury added a run in the fifth when
Taylor Ellestad had an RBI double . ESU scored their final two runs in the 6
th.
Drury outhit Emporia 12-8.
Jessica Kjeldgaard (0-2) got the loss and Kaelah McMullin (5-0) earned the win.
Drury will continue action at the Eight State Classic in Bentonville tomorrow at 9 a.m. vs. Concordia-St. Paul and face Northeastern State in the last game at 11 a.m.
