BENTONVILLE, Ark. – The Drury Softball team broke the single game hit record with 22 in their 15-13 win over Concordia-St. Paul for a split in the final day at the Eight State Classic, before falling to Northeastern State 5-3 in the nightcap.
In the opener Drury opened two runs in the opening inning, but allowed one to Concordia in the bottom of the first and eight in the second to find themselves down 9-2 after 2 innings.
The Panthers scored runs in both the third and fourth innings and added seven runs on seven hits in the fifth to go on top 11-9. Concordia added three runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth go back on top 12-11.
A pair of Panther runs in the sixth would put DU back on top 13-12 and Drury capped it off with two runs in the seventh with St
Drury broke the single game record of 21 hits in the contest which was set in 2010 vs. Eckerd.
Dominique Salinas and
Destiny Bolen each had four hits with
Taylor Ellestad,
Rachael Michaelis each had three.
Drury is now 2-4, Concordia-St. Paul dropped to (1-8) and Northeastern State is now (6-4)
Bolen (2-0) earned the win and Linzy Heim (1-3) got the loss for Concordia-St. Paul.
In the nightcap Drury faced Northeastern State with the RiverHawks opening with two first inning runs. Northeastern added a run in the third before Drury got on the board with a run in the fifth on a Bolen homer.
The RiverHawks added two runs in their half of the fifth to make it 5-1 after five.
Hannah Hearst hit a two-run homer in the sixth to give DU their final two runs.
NE State outhit DU 7-4 and Paige Gann had three hits, three RBIs and scored a run.
Sylver Collins earned the win (5-1), Jennifer Wolf got the save (2) and
Jessica Kjeldgaard (0-3) received the loss for DU.
Next up for the Drury Softball Panthers will be non-conference road series at Southwest Baptist on February 22 at 1 p.m.
