EVANSVILLE – The Drury Softball team opened play at the Southern Indiana Crossover with sweep winning the opener 4-1 over Saginaw Valley State before beating Kentucky Wesleyan 6-1 on Saturday.
Drury improved to 4-6, Saginaw Valley State dropped to 3-5 and Kentucky Wesleyan fell to 7-5.
In the opener Drury scored four runs on five hits highlighted by a three run homer from
Kaelie Smith in the bottom of the first to jump on Saginaw Valley State 4-0. Freshman
Hannah Hearst also doubled to score
Taylor Ellestad in the opening inning. The Cardinals got on the board in the third on an RBI walk for their lone run.
Jessica Kjeldgaard (2-4) earned the win and allowed four hits and had a strikeout with Hannah Atwell (0-1) receiving the loss for SVSU.
Danielle Hamilton and Courtney Reeves each had two hits for Saginaw. Drury hits came from Ellestad, Hearst,
Marissa Ross,
Dominique Salinas and Smith.

Rachael Michaelis singled to plate
Samantha Dockweiler in the top of the second inning. Drury put Wesleyan away in the fifth inning by scoring five runs on four hits for a 6-1 lead. Ellestad singled to drive in a run,
Miki Andrus singled to plate a pair of Panthers and
Kelley Conway capped off the inning with a two run homer.
Destiny Bolen (2-2) earned the win for Drury with Casey Smith (1-3) getting the loss for Wesleyan. Smith and Michaelis led DU with two hits each in a nine hit effort. Wesleyan managed just four hits in the contest.
The Drury Softball Panthers will continue play at the Southern Indiana Crossover tomorrow taking on Ohio Dominican at 10 a.m. and Ferris state at noon.
