Dominique Salinas went 5 for 6 to help the Drury softball Panthers earn a GLVC split vs. Truman State. Drury won the opener 6-5, before falling 10-2 in the nightcap.
Drury is now 16-17, 4-6 GLVC on the season, and Truman State moved to 22-14, 5-5 GLVC.
In the opener, Truman scored runs in the first and third for a 2-0 advantage, before Drury went on top 4-2, after scoring four runs on four hits, and an error in the bottom of the third. Third inning offense came on RBI hits from Salinas (double),
Kaelie Smith (single), and a two RBI single by
Kelley Conway.
The Bulldogs scored a pair of runs in the fourth to knot it up 4-4, then added the go ahead run in the fifth. In the sixth, Salinas singled to plate
Marissa Ross and tied it up at five, before an RBI groundout by Smith scored
Abbey LeJong for the game winner.
Salinas went 3 for 4 with two RBI's and scored a run, with Conway going 2 for 3, and Smith finishing 2 for 4. Alyssa Rivera went 3 for 4 and scored a run for Truman, who finished with nine hits. Drury finished with 11 hits in the contest.
Jessica Kjeldgaard (8-10) earned the win for DU. She went seven innings, giving up five runs, nine hits, and striking out one. Lauren Dale (10-6) suffered the loss for the Bulldogs and threw 1.2 innings.
In the nightcap, Drury went ahead 2-1 when
Kari Hillenburg swiped home in the second inning. Truman erupted to score five runs on six hits in the fourth to put the game away. A pair of RBI doubles and an RBI sacrifice fly by the Bulldogs in the sixth made it 9-2. TSU added their final run in the seventh.
Truman racked up 14 hits and was led by Morgan McMahon, who went 3 for 4 with an RBI. Salinas went 2 for 2, and Hillenburg went 2 for 3 in the nightcap for the Panthers, who finished with six hits.
In the circle, Alyssa Hajduk (2-3) went the distance in a winning effort for Truman.
Destiny Bolen (8-7) went 5.1 innings in a losing effort.
Drury will continue GLVC home action from Thompson Field tomorrow, hosting Quincy at noon.
