Panthers take over first place in sweep at William Jewell

LIBERTY, Mo.- The Drury Panthers took sole possession of first place in the West Division of the Great Lakes Valley Conference on Saturday as they swept William Jewell in a doubleheader in Liberty, Missouri. Drury won game one 11-5 and took the second game 5-3 in the first two games of a four-game series.
 
Drury, ranked 27th nationally by Collegiate Baseball, improved to 22-8 and 8-2 in the GLVC. The Panthers ended the day with a one-game lead over Quincy (18-11, 7-3). William Jewell, who entered the day in a three-way tie for first place in the division, dropped to 13-14 and 6-4 in the league.
 
In game one, Ryan Colombo improved to 7-0 as he pitched seven innings allowing six hits, five runs and three earned runs with four walks and three strikeouts in the 11-5 win. The senior from Topeka, Kansas has won seven of his eight starts.
 
At the plate, Colombo went 3 for 4 and scored three runs. Dylan Bradshaw drove in five runs in the game going 2 for 5 with a double. His double in the fifth inning scored three runs as part of a four-run frame that gave Drury a 9-4 lead.
 
Drury scored in each of the first four innings of game two and hung on for a 5-3 win. Ryan Kayhill put the Panthers in front in the first inning with a bases-loaded single that drove in two runs.
 
Dylan Bradshaw had two more hits in the second game going 2 for 4 with a RBI while Clayton Engel went 2 for 4 and drove in a run.
 
Garrett Woods (4-2) got the win for Drury going 6.1 innings allowing nine hits and three runs with two walks and six strikeouts. Alex Stilwell got the final two outs for the Panthers to pick up his third save.
 
The two teams continue the series with a doubleheader that starts at noon on Sunday in Liberty, Missouri.
