LIBERTY - William Jewell earned a GLVC home sweep over the Drury softball Panthers, 5-1 and 1-0 Sunday at Spratt Sports Complex.
Drury slips to 17-22, 5-11 in the league, and William Jewell improved to 17-17, 9-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
In the opener, the Cardinals scored two runs in the opening frame, and later added an RBI double in the third for a 3-0 lead. In the top of the fourth,
Kelley Conway hit her second home run of the year for the Panthers' lone run.Â
William Jewell scored runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to make it a 5-1 final.
Drury had five hits off Anna Biondo, who improved to (12-4), and had three strikeouts.Â
Jessica Kjeldgaard (9-12) received the loss in six innings of action. Emily Hoover led Jewell with a two for three game, and had two RBIs with a home run. Both teams left just five runners on base.
In the nightcap, Hoover, who hit her second home run of the game and 11
th of the year, gave Jewell all they would need with her solo shot in the sixth.Â
Abbey LeJong went 2 for 3 for the Panthers, who finished with five hits.Â
Sarah Lewis (4-5), earned a two strikeout complete game victory.Â
Destiny Bolen (8-10) also had two strikeouts in the loss, and allowed four hits.
Drury will continue GLVC road action Wednesday, when they travel to Missouri S&T for a 2 p.m. start.
