SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury rallied for two goals in the last 5:16 of regulation as the Panthers stunned Indianapolis 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Harrison Stadium / Curry Sports Complex.
Drury improved to 3-1 and 2-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Greyhounds dropped to 2-2 and 1-1 in the league.
The Panthers tied the game with 5:16 left on a goal by
Pierre Villez. Then, with 28 seconds remaining, Drury got the game-winning goal on a scramble in front of the Greyhounds net. Villez sent a ball towards the goal and
Charles Guelly deflected it into the net to cap off the Panthers come from behind win.
Until the two late goals by Drury, it appeared that Indianapolis was the team that would rally for the win. Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Greyhounds tied the game in the 76
th minute on a goal by Brett Langley. Ten minutes later, Jakub Olczyk put UIndy in front 2-1 as he fired home a shot through a crowd from in front of the net.
The Panthers, however, would respond late and their win marked the second time this weekend that Drury scored in the closing minutes to pull out a victory. On Friday,
Joshua Lewis-Evans scored in the 87
th minute in a 1-0 win over Wisconsin-Parkside. Sunday, it took two goals in the final six minutes to avoid overtime and win in regulation.
Drury will try and keep their conference record perfect as they go on the road for the first time this season in their next game. The Panthers are at Illinois Springfield for a 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
