SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury won their sixth straight with a 3-1 victory over Truman State on Saturday at the O'Reilly Family Event Center. The win raised the Panthers record to 14-2 and 6-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Bulldogs dropped to 6-9 and 2-4 in the league.
Drury won the opening set 25-21 but Truman State evened the match winning the second set 25-18. Both teams had a set-point opportunity in the third, but the Panthers got two kills from
Bentley Mara to give them a 28-26 win in the set. The fourth set was tied 18-18 when freshman
Kayla Allison's serve helped Drury to six consecutive points setting up a 25-20 win.
"Kayla had a great game," said Drury head coach
Jenifer Bahner. "She's extremely coachable and she's been in a situation where she's been learning under some veteran players. I was excited to see her come in and use some of the things she's learned and she did it in an extremely stressful situation."
Mara had a game-high 22 kills, a career high for the junior from Harrison, Arkansas.
Sarah Kite chipped in 20 kills.
Bree Schmidt led the Panthers with 30 digs while
Kendra Sater added 49 assists.
Jasmine Brown led Truman State with 14 kills and Savvy Hughes had a game-high 50 assists.
Drury returns to action on Tuesday when they host McKendree. Game time is 7 p.m. at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.
