Panthers break team record with 20 three's in 118-74 win over Missouri S&T

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Drury Panthers set a torrid pace the opening 20 minutes of their Great Lakes Valley Conference meeting Saturday against Missouri S&T, pouring in 67 points and running away for a 118-74 win at the O'Reilly Family Event Center.

Drury's scoring total was a season high, and they established a school record for three-pointers made in a game, hitting 20 of 38 attempts in the 44-point rout of the Miners.

It wasn't all long range, however, as the Panthers (11-2, 4-1) were a blistering 46 of 75 overall from the field for 61% in the game.  They also dominated on the boards, outrebounding S&T 44-20.

"Our guys are going in the right direction, but you can't count on making 20 three's," said Drury head coach Steve Hesser. "But that's kind of our identity this season."

Junior Andrew Ballock hit his first five 3-point attempts on the afternoon, and the Panthers were 11 of 19 from long range the first half to pull away from the Miners with a 67-35 halftime edge, including a half-court make by freshman Cam Potts as time expired.

Drury placed six players in double figures, with Ballock's 18 (6 of 7 from 3-point range) leading the way. Junior Tyler Clanton, sophomore Kamau Kinder, and freshman Julius Walker had 14 each, while junior Allen Billinger added 13 and junior John Williams chipped in with 11.  Freshman Allante Pickens paced the Miners (2-12, 0-6) with 20.

"The three things we said in September were: shoot the three, chase the miss and value the ball," remarked Hesser. "We had just seven turnovers today, and overall we've had our lowest turnover totals since I've been here."

Drury next hits the road January 15 at Truman State in the first game of a four-game stretch away from home extending through January 25.
