Drury softball falls short twice in Saturday's DU Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.- The Panthers lost twice on Saturday in the Drury Invitational Tournament at Thompson Field as they fell to Wisconsin-Parkside 6-4 and Ouachita Baptist 6-2. The tournament replaced the 9-State Classic that was scheduled for this weekend in Bentonville, Arkansas but was canceled due to inclement weather at the site of the event.

In Drury's first game on Saturday, the Panthers owned a 4-3 lead after four innings, but UW-Parkside responded with two runs in the fifth and another run in the seventh to win 6-4.

Natalie Lopez went 2 for 3 for the Panthers with two runs and a run batted in. Jacy Ummell also had a pair of hits going 2 for 4 with a run scored.

Allison Hausel (2-0) pitched all seven innings for UW-Parkside as she got the win. Kasey Cazares (0-1) took the loss for the Panthers.

Drury collected 10 hits in their second game of the day but could only push across two runs in a 6-2 loss to Ouachita Baptist.

The Panthers tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the third on Destiny Bolen's RBI single. The Tigers bounced back with two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to pull away.

Eight of Drury's nine starters had at least one hit, but the Panthers stranded 11 runners and had someone left one base in every inning.

Sarah Chamberlain (2-1) got the win for Ouachita Baptist while Madison Resch (0-2) took the loss for the Panthers.

The Drury Softball Invitational continues tomorrow. The Panthers will play Arkansas-Monticello in a doubleheader with games at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at Thompson Field.
