Panthers take two from Arkansas-Monticello

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.- Drury swept Arkansas-Monticello in a doubleheader on Sunday at Thompson Field winning the first game 7-5 and taking game two 4-3.

The wins helped the Panthers bounce back from two losses against Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday in the Drury Softball Invitational. The weekend event replaced the 9-State Classic in Bentonville, Arkansas that was canceled due to inclement weather.

Drury took control of game one with a five-run second inning and hung on for a 7-5 win. Panthers catcher Madison Hecker went 2 for 4 with three runs batted in while outfielder Jacy Ummel went 3 for 4 with two runs scored.

In game two, Hailly Greenough's single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning drove in Megan Holmes to deliver a 4-3 Drury win. Greenough went 2 for 4 in the game with a run scored and the game-winning RBI. Emmaree Stone went 3 for 4, and her seventh-inning hit put Holmes in scoring position to set up the winning run.

Drury starter Madison Resch (1-2) got the win as she went seven innings allowing four hits and three runs with two walks and one strikeout.

The sweep evened Drury's record at 3-3 while Arkansas-Monticello dropped to 0-7.

The Panthers return to action in the Southern Indiana Crossover Tournament Feb. 23-24 in Evansville, Indiana.
