PINE BLUFF, Ark.- The Jerry Breaux era for Drury University softball began with a win, and a loss on Friday in Pine Bluff, Arkansas as the Panthers lost their opener to the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff 8-4 but came back to defeat Alabama A&M 4-1. Both were NCAA-I opponents.
 
Friday marked the first two games at Drury for new head coach Jerry Breaux. Breaux, who has 24 years of head coaching experience with stops at Evangel University and Louisiana State-Alexandria, took over the Panthers program in July.
 
Arkansas-Pine Bluff took an early lead against Drury scoring two runs in the first inning, and the Lions added another run in the third. The Panthers got within a run of the lead after a two-run fourth inning, but the Lions put the game away with three runs in the fifth, and they added two more an inning later.
 
Arkansas-Pine Bluff outhit Drury 10-5, but the Panthers got a solo home run from Destiny Bolen, the first one of her career at Drury.  
 
Drury won their second game of the day with a 4-1 victory over Alabama A&M.
 
The Panthers scored all four of their runs in the fourth inning. Drury received a two-RBI hit from Kelley Conway while Hannah Hearst picked up an RBI single and Emaree Stone drove in a run when she was hit by a pitch.
 
Hailly Greenough (1-0) got the win for Drury pitching six innings and allowing four hits and one run with two walks and seven strikeouts.
 
The Panthers play the same two teams tomorrow. Drury will take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 11 a.m. and Alabama A&M at 1 p.m. at the Torii Hunter Complex in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
