Panthers sweep Kentucky Wesleyan with a pair of one-run wins

OWENSBORO, Ky.— Drury swept a doubleheader from Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday winning game one 3-2 and taking game two 4-3 at Foster Field in Owensboro, Kentucky.
 
The Panthers improved to 7-9 and have won four straight. Kentucky Wesleyan dropped to 10-9. 
 
In game one, Drury got out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh to win by a run. Kentucky Wesleyan scored to pull within one, 3-2, and had the bases loaded with two out when Kasey Cazares got Jaylin Tidwell to ground out to second base to end the game.
 
Madison Hecker went 2 for 3 with two runs scored to lead Drury at the plate.
 
The Panthers took a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth on an RBI triple by Megan Holmes. Cazares (1-2) got the win for Drury going all seven innings and allowing six hits, two runs and one earned run with two walks and eight strikeouts.
 
In game two, the Panthers trailed 3-0 going into in the seventh inning but scored four runs to set up the doubleheader sweep. Drury got a bases-loaded walk from Megan Tersteeg to get on the board, then Jacy Ummel hammered a three-RBI double to left-center to put the Panthers in front.
 
Kasey Cazares pitched the seventh inning and allowed a hit but struck out two batters to pick up her third save. Sydney Hansen (1-1) pitched one inning in relief and got the win for Drury.
 
Ummel finished the game going 2 for 4 with three RBI's, and Emily Stringer went 2 for 3 with a run scored.
 
Drury returns home to host Quincy on Saturday in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader starting at noon.
