Two DU rallies fall short as Lyon wins twice at U.S. Baseball Park

OZARK, Mo.- Two Drury comeback attempts fell short as Lyon swept the Panthers in a doubleheader on Tuesday winning game one 5-4 and game two 15-12 at U.S. Baseball Park in Ozark.

In a seven-inning game one, the Panthers trailed 5-1 going into the 7th but threatened with three runs in the final half-inning. The Panthers got an RBI single from Colin Garner, then an RBI hit in a pinch-hit at-bat by Nathan Schweppe. Clayton Engel's sacrifice fly brought Drury within a run, and the Panthers had runners at first and second with one out, but the Scots closed out the game with a fly ball to right field and a pop up to third.

In game two, Lyon jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the first two innings. Drury pulled within two after scoring four runs in the third and two more in the fourth. The Scots added a run in the fifth inning and put the game out of reach with three runs in the seventh and three more in the ninth.

The Panthers fought to keep up and scored two runs in the seventh and four in the bottom of the ninth before falling short.

Schweppe went 3 for 4 for Drury in game two with three runs scored, a double, and three runs batted in. Shortstop Ethan Owens went 3 for 4 with two runs and a walk.

Kylan Barnett, who hit a home run for Lyon in game one, went 3 for 5 in the second game with two runs and an RBI.

The Scots, ranked 11th in the NAIA, improved to 20-7 while Drury dropped to 8-13.

The Panthers play again on Saturday when they open their Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule at home with a doubleheader against Missouri-St. Louis. Game one starts at noon at U.S. Baseball Park.
